Renowned British singer of Azerbaijani origin Sami Yusuf has come to İstanbul to promote his most recent album, “Salaam” (Peace), Turkish news agencies reported on Sunday. Yusuf, who was dubbed “Islam’s biggest rock star” by Time Magazine, was welcomed by his fans on Sunday evening at İstanbul Atatürk Airport.
Yusuf is scheduled to promote his fourth studio album “Salaam,” officially released on Dec. 22, 2012, and which has been re-arranged for Turkish audience, today at the Four Seasons İstanbul at the Bosphorus in the city’s Beşiktaş district, the Anatolia news agency said. The singer will later travel to the southern province of Antalya to perform a concert on Saturday at the Antalya Expo Center.
“Salaam” has achieved platinum status in South-East Asia and has been the best-selling album in Middle Eastern and North African countries since its release. In addition to English songs, the re-arranged version of the album has songs in Turkish as well. The album also includes the song “Hear Your Call,” composed by Yusuf to call attention to the situation of people who are affected by natural disasters.
